Story Time in the Formal Garden

  • Oak Spring Garden Foundation 1776 Loughborough Lane Upperville United States (map)

Registration for this event will open at noon EDT on May 1st, 2026.

Availability is very limited.

Join us for a delightful mid-afternoon gathering in the garden, designed especially for young children and their caregivers. This intimate program welcomes children ages 3–5, each accompanied by an adult, for a relaxed and engaging story time experience.

The program will feature a reading by Head Librarian Tony Willis of one of Mrs. Mellon’s favorite children’s books, set amidst the beauty of the garden. Following the story, families will enjoy a light snack and a hands-on craft activity, thoughtfully organized by our Local Education and Outreach team.

This program offers a gentle introduction to storytelling, nature, and creative exploration in a warm and welcoming setting.

This event will take place on the Little Oak Spring portion of OSGF but it will not include a tour of the formal garden or main residence. Please note that we recommend using Google Maps for the most accurate directions to our site.

About the OSGF Local Education and Outreach (LEO) Program: In 2022, Oak Spring Garden Foundation initiated an Education and Outreach program that provides hands-on experiential learning opportunities to local K-12 and senior populations using the vast resources at the Biocultural Conservation Farm and Rokeby Landscape. Since its inception, the LEO team has engaged and provided opportunities for over 5000 youth and underserved community members. Programming includes "all things plants" such as sustainable farming practices and growing techniques, propagation of plants, healthy food choices and farm to table programs, integrated pest management, composting, pollinators and native plants, natural resource conservation, ecology, ethnobotany, art with plants, chicken husbandry and many more educational, inspirational and creative ways in which plants and the natural world impact lives and health. The positive impacts of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation's Local Education and Outreach program are taking root with plans to continue to plant and nourish future generations of botanical enthusiasts.
