Cade N. Kane, 2025

OSGF

Plant Science Research Fellow 2025

Cade N. Kane (he/him) is a plant physiologist with a PhD from Purdue University. His current research interest is on the water dynamics of woody plant buds as they expand and burst during the spring. He uses recently-developed time-lapse imaging technology to capture the diurnal and seasonal changes in bud size, gathering data on how plants respond to changes in water status even before they have leaves.

Samantha Rosa, 2025

OSGF

Plant Science Research Fellow 2025

Samantha Rosa (she/her) is a PhD candidate in Biological Sciences and Ecology at the University of Maryland. With a background as a classroom teacher, her current work focuses on community-driven plant biology and conservation with the goal to develop curricula and programming that increase the accessibility of plant science research.

Sierra Pérez, 2024

OSGF

Plant Science Research Fellow 2024

Sierra is a PhD candidate candiate at the University of Indiana. She is currently working with Dr. Jennifer Lau and her research interests lie in the factors which influence a plant populations resiliency to a changing climate.

Liming Cai, 2024

OSGF

Plant Science Research Fellow 2024

Liming is currently a Stengl-Wyer Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Texas Austin. As a systematic biologist, her research is focused on phylogeny and evolutionary genomics, she also has interests in insects as well.

Anna Wyngaarden, 2023

OSGF

Plant Science Research Fellow 2023

Anna Wyngaarden is a population ecologist and botanist interested in the population dynamics driving the persistence of rare and endemic plant species. She is currently focusing on three globally imperiled species endemic to granite outcrops in the southeastern US, utilizing observational studies and modeling approaches to tease apart the broad and local drivers of the species’ observed patterns of abundance and occupancy.

Aleca Borsuk, 2021

OSGF

Inaugural Plant Science Research Fellow, 2021

Aleca Borsuk is a Ph.D candidate in Plant Ecophysiology at Yale University whose research interests are plant morphology, plant physiology, and bio-inspired technology.  Her work aims to improve carbon assimilation models based on a new, spatially resolved understanding of leaf internal anatomy. Learn more about her on our blog.
